Pilgrimage of Our Lady of A Lanzada

pilgrimage of our lady of la lanzada

The pilgrimage is held every year at the end of August in honour of Nosa Señora da Lanzada, where hundreds of the faithful from all over the region flock to the virgin, who is famous for her fertility rituals.

Tradition has it that at dawn, married women who want to get pregnant and unmarried women who want a husband, get into the water and pass nine waves over them, so that their request will be fulfilled. Bathing will only be effective if the sun is not yet over the horizon and the moon must be waxing or full, when the tides are strongest and the waters reach their flow limits.

It is held next to the hermitage on a large esplanade surrounded by beach bars where you can enjoy typical dishes, such as octopus or steak, and two orchestras…
